Original or Aftermarket Strap for the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch: Differences, Prices and Which to Choose

Original or Aftermarket Strap for the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch: Differences, Prices and Which to Choose

Search for a strap for the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch and you find three very different products: the Velcro strap that comes with the watch, the rubber straps Swatch has sold separately since January 2025, and a crowd of independent options. Here is a plain comparison so you only pay once.

The three options for your MoonSwatch

1. The stock Velcro strap

It is the one in the box: fabric with a Velcro closure, light and easy to adjust. It matches the look the watch was designed around. The downsides: it soaks up sweat and water, gets dirty with daily wear, and the hook-and-loop loses grip over the months. Many owners swap it out by summer, or as soon as they start training in it.

2. Swatch's official rubber straps

Since January 2025 Swatch sells two-tone rubber straps for the MoonSwatch, with a Bioceramic keeper and a Velcro closure. On Swatch's Spanish site the rubber ones are listed at €45.00 each. The Velcro mission straps are listed at €40.00. They are the most "in-house" choice, with colours that match the collection and guaranteed fit.

3. Independent 20 mm straps

These are third-party straps made for the MoonSwatch lug width. Quality varies a lot by seller, so check what is inside the listing: material, finishing and tools.

Differences that matter

Material: FKM rubber vs silicone

This is the biggest gap between a good independent strap and a poor one. FKM (fluoroelastomer) resists sweat, sunscreen and UV better and keeps its feel over time. Cheap silicone tends to attract lint, yellow and stiffen. If you buy an aftermarket strap, make sure the listing names the material instead of just saying "rubber" or "premium silicone".

Curved ends

The MoonSwatch case is 42 mm and the strap should hug it. Straight ends leave a visible gap between lug and strap; 20 mm curved ends sit flush against the case and look more integrated.

Buckle and tool

Velcro is convenient, but a pin buckle gives finer adjustment and a more traditional watch look. Changing straps without a proper tool is also the quickest way to scratch the case. Our WatchCollab straps include a tool and spring bars, so the swap takes a minute.

Quick comparison

  • Stock Velcro: included with the watch; comfortable, but dirties and wears.
  • Official Swatch rubber: about €45; collection colours, Velcro closure.
  • Independent FKM rubber: from €39.99 at WatchCollab; 20 mm curved ends, pin buckle, tool and spring bars included.

When the original is the better choice

To be fair, there are cases where the official strap wins. If you want exactly the two-tone colourway of a mission, or you want the watch to come with only Swatch-made parts when you resell it, go official. The same goes if you like Velcro and just need to replace a worn strap.

Genuine leather strap for Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch, fitted on the Mission to Neptune

If you want a pin buckle, a different material (leather, NATO, steel) or several colours without spending a fortune, an independent strap makes more sense. Browse all straps for the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch or go straight to rubber straps.

Price and shipping: the real maths

WatchCollab straps start at €39.99, and our "buy 4, pay for 3" offer helps if you want a strap for every occasion. We ship from the EU in 24-72 hours, with no customs and no surprise charges, which is exactly the problem owners report when buying from sellers outside Europe.

Our recommendation

  • Want the collection look and don't mind Velcro: the official strap.
  • Want variety, a pin buckle and a better price per strap: an independent FKM strap with curved ends.
  • Want a classic feel: a leather strap.

FAQ

Will any 20 mm strap fit the MoonSwatch?

The lug width is 20 mm, but for a clean fit you want curved ends made for the 42 mm case. A straight strap fits, but leaves a gap.

Can I change the strap myself?

Yes. With the tool and spring bars we include, it takes about a minute and needs no watchmaker.

How much does a MoonSwatch strap cost?

Swatch's rubber straps are listed at €45 on its Spanish site. Ours start at €39.99, and "buy 4, pay for 3" lowers the unit price.
